Is this about the best mashed potato and gravy photo you have ever seen from a cell phone? I was impressed! LOL.... A couple of Sundays ago my sibs and I went to Mom's for a meal to celebrate... ME! It was a couple of weeks after my birthday, but no matter, I love drawing nearly any celebration out for weeks. The longer the Merrier~
My 90 year old Mom made a classic family meal from our childhood. Braised BBQ chicken, mashed potatoes, shredded southern slaw and heat-n-serve rolls. You can barely tell what the roll is because it is open, flat and drenched in some of the BBQ sauce the chicken cooked in.
YUM!! It was amazing. Good food and a fun visit.
My younger sister has been teaching herself, with the help of some videos, to make homemade bread. She gave me a loaf as a birthday present. It was quite pretty and wrapped all profession like.
This is what was on the back. She is the youngest of our bunch and 9 years younger than me. A number of years back, I dubbed her Brat Baby, something she tolerated for a while, before finally telling me one day that she didn't like being called that. I didn't realize as it had been ALL funny before, but, I guess she had enough and so I totally respected what she said and didn't call her that again. (Even though she IS a Brat)
Forward several years later and I received something from her that she had signed "Brat Baby" I looked at her surprised and said "I thought you didn't like that name" to which she replied that she didn't like it back then, but now she does. What tha???? So I immediately yelled BRAT !! Little Sisters! Whatchagonnado?
Therefore, as you can see, that is how she signed her handy work and boy was it ever delicious !
The next weekend, as I was leaving Mom's, at the top of the drive I saw that the sky was FULL of contrails. It was weird and kind of pretty at the same time. I have never seen the sky like this before. Turns out, when the temperature and air moisture are just the perfect combination, the exhaust condensation from the planes and jets just kind of hangs around longer than usual, slowly expanding wider and wider.
Sure, I've seen jet trails, which I call chem trails now and then, but never ever a sky full of them as most of the time they dissipate not too long after you can no longer see the jets.
Half way home as I sat at a red light, I took another photo of them. They were impressive and these glowed pink in the setting sunlight.
Last Wednesday, the weather had been pretty and amazingly mild all of the sudden after a week or two of some nearly record cold temps. I had forgotten to mail a couple of bills for Mom on Sunday, so after work I went to mail them, do a couple of errands, one of which was stop at Dollar General.
Although it wasn't what I went for, I saw this fun soft blanket with conversation hearts on it, like the candy hearts that are my fav. I touched it, grinned to myself on the thought of it's cuteness and walked on by. I couple of aisles later, it called me back, so on a whim I bought it. It is SO soft and didn't cost a lot.
When I got into the house that evening, I had been several places and had multiple bags in my hands. I sat things down, put some things away and went on with my life as per usual. Yesterday, I decided to pull it out and wash it as I do everything fabric, before I use it, only to find..... I couldn't find it ! I just KNEW it was here, that I had left it in the bag to take off the hanger it was on later. But..... try as I may, I was unable to locate it. Maybe I had left it in the car, but later when I took out my trash and paid my rent, it was not in the car. Hmmmmmmm
SO....today on the way home again from Mom's, I stopped at a Dollar General or two, to see if they might have another. The first two did not. Then I got to the one where I bought it originally, knowing they only had one when I made the original purchase, but I had decided to stop anyway and ask how long they kept bags where customer's had bought things, but then left a bag in the store. The young cashier said he didn't know, but turned to look behind him on a shelf, where I could see clearly the bag with my blanket in it. I had told him I was in there on Wednesday and when he put the bag on the counter, it had Wednesday's date on it and he handed it right over. I was SO delighted, yes, that's right, it doesn't take a lot to add some happiness to my day.
I took it off it's hanger when I got home and put it across my work desk chair so it will be there in the morning as I begin a new week of work. It IS February after all, so all things "heart" will be the style till the 14th.
Adorable..... right ? My inner child is right pleased.
While I was at the store I saw these two fun cups. I especially liked the one where the straw was going down the center of a donut. No... no.... I didn't whim buy either one of them, but that didn't keep them from being cute. I am opposed to drinking daily from a plastic cup, so although it made me smile, I wasn't tempted to buy it.
Ok... how did you like my mash up??? Such randomness!
