The sexual exploitation of trafficked victims, especially children, is especially heinous. The problem is epiq in sale. According to the United Nations, around 4.5 million persons are in sexual servitude. Law enforcement is increasingly turning to artificial intelligence (A.I.) to combat this crime. They're having success.
Marinus Analytics, the company that makes Traffic Jam, reports that the program is used by hundreds of law enforcement agencies across the U.S. and Canada, and has aided in rescue operations for at least 300 victims.
The A.I. software is incredibly versatile too - able to analyze the irises of children for identification purposes from several feet away, escort ads to determine whether a pimp is involved and images over the web that detect abuse.
All this is great news, but in the back of mind, I'm wondering what law enforcement will look like in the future. How "free" are we if every move we make on social media or the public may be subject to warrant-less A.I. review?
