Every year on the 1st of May the mystical green men appear in Glastonbury UK. They wear beautiful crowns fashioned from intricately woven fresh green folage, most wear long flowing green cloaks and clothes, their faces are covered in green paint.
Their reason for this is to celebrate a pagan tradition called Beltaine. Its a fertility festival where long poles are erected in village greens and everyone joins in with dancing, the pole is dressed, food, merriment fun are enjoyed by everyone.
As you can see from the pictures they really are having such a lot of fun. The couple above were part of the local morris dancer troupe that performed a magnificent show on the day.
I am pretty sure their was a lot of love in the air too on May the 1st, one or two green men on the day found or rekindled their love for a fine maiden, these two were smiling so much from their love, and he has got a huge horn.
