Silver Bush and Blue Rock Bindweed are the common names of two species of Convolvulus. Silver Bush ( Convolvulus cneorum ) is a low-growing shrub up to around 0.5 metres tall. It is easy to grow, very hardy, and has a long flowering season. The silver foliage is great for providing contrast in garden beds amongst other plants, and the plant is covered in very attractive small white flowers with a yellow eye. Silver Bush is also great to grow in pots.
Blue Rock Bindweed is Convolvulus sabatius spp mauritanicus. This plant is more of a ground -cover plant as it is very low growing. It's deep green leaves and massed blue flowers over a long season make it a popular plant in gardens and landscapes. It look great when spilling over a garden wall, or just filling the vacant gaps between other plants and it is fast growing too.
Both of these Convolvulus are drought tolerant and are easy to maintain, having relatively few pests and diseases. They are both happiest in a sunny spot with well-drained soil, and can be grown in cool-temperate to warmer climates. I took these photos in garden around North Sydney close to the Harbour.
