About 26-37 million adults remain unvaccinated at this point.
Risk of hospitalization and death is still predominantly concentrated in the unvaccinated. As of May the risk of hospitalization is 3.5x higher and the risk of death 9x higher in the unvaccinated compared to the vaccinated.
Some unvaccinated expressed interest in a traditional vaccine like the Novavax vaccine. But don't expect huge overall uptake.
In any case it is good to have more vaccine options. For the time being Novavax is only allowed as a primary vaccine series. It hasn't received authorization as a booster vaccine yet.
Novavax is being dispensed in 10 dose vials with a short window of use after the vial is pierced. So we may see a lot of vaccine waste at this point, given most people are already vaccinated. Hopefully targeted outreach to unvaccinated groups will limit waste.
