At the high end of success, more than 10% of the people in four states have received at least one COVID-19 vaccination - Alaska, West Virginia, New Mexico and Connecticut. What are they doing right that your state (and mine) are doing wrong?
At the low end of the ladder, nine states have vaccinated less than 7% - with Idaho, Iowa and Kansas at the bottom.
The middling (median) group has vaccinated (once) only 7.9- 8.0%. Unfortunately, that includes such densely populated viral epi-centers as Florida, New York and New Jersey.
When it comes to critical "last mile" of vaccine delivery (getting more than 55% delivered vaccine out of a state hoard into some vulnerable person's arm) too many states are supplying too few innovative private agents (such as pharmacies and physicians) to ever get the job done promptly and efficiently.
The 'last mile' problem would ease if a lot more vaccine being produced in the first place. Astra Zeneca, J and J and Novavax are still being held up by the same bureaucratic insanity that delayed Moderna and Pzizer for so long. Meanwhile, possibly resistant strains are becoming more prevalent.
"Science", indeed!
