This kit was done with rattle cans and hand painting. No airbrush! First car in a while, to practice on and see how it went.
I found this kit at a car-boot sale for £3, so didn't set too high an expectation. Scale is 1/25 Revell and it is a beginner level kit which I attempted to detail best I could with brushes, spray cans and acrylic paints. Generally not ashamed to admit this one was a rough build for fun and practice.
These Revell kits come with the body painted, and chromed wheels which I decided to address. In hindsight, the end result is I'm pleased with the body, whilst the wheels could have done with proper spray or airbrushing. It's possible to build this kit by snapping most of the components together, very simple. It came with an engine, which I built up and painted, then added some ignition wires for extra detail.

Engine in place
Assembling the model, showing the lights in place where the indicator clear lenses were painted from behind with orange paint. Some dry-brushing was done around the grill and and engine areas to enhance more details.
Interior was a lucky shot with gold paint on the steering wheel logo. More gentle dry-brushing and attempt to highlight details. A bit of a rough go as I haven't built any car model for while and at the time was using cheap and scavenged craft based acrylic paints.
More stages in-between meant sanding and smoothing all of the body, spraying with primer, allowing to cure, and spraying with acrylics. I'll do a post on the entire process with all the pics soon. Finally clear coat was added (about 4 layers) and left again to harden for a week whilst I got on with other jobs. After this, using sanding grits and blocks from 2000 all the way to 5000. Once the fine sanding is done ordinary automotive car polish (in this case Meguiré's diamond wax) is used to bring out the final gloss.

Overall pleased with what was a cheapo fun build

The Camaro ZL1 was a special high power model released in 2013
I've just started on my next and a major build - this time I'll also be airbrushing with a recently obtained set and a booth I built. It's a Porsche 959 by Tamiya and will be taking a lot a more time over it than I did here. I think it's essential to produce a few 'no worries' models which allowed some practice to be got in before starting something more detailed. This Revell kit allowed for a nice warm up!
