Today I helped finish my mother’s greenhouse, built by a Colombian guy who’s a bit like me in the sense that he’s a nomad. He works in places for a while and then moves on, which I think is a pretty fun way to move around.
Hoy ayudé a terminar el invernadero de mi madre, construido por un colombiano que se parece un poco a mí en el sentido de que es un nómada. Trabaja en lugares durante un tiempo y luego sigue adelante, lo que creo que es una forma bastanteentretenida de moverse.
During the work we talked a lot and he advertised Colombia as a great place to visit. We talked about the difference in the weather, how it’s always easy to find work, the amazing variety of fruits, the parties and festivities, the jungle, indigenous communities, medicinal plants, and many other promising aspects of that land.
Durante el trabajo hablamos mucho y él promocionó a Colombia como un gran lugar para visitar. Hablamos sobre la diferencia de clima, cómo siempre es fácil encontrar trabajo, la increíble variedad de frutas, las fiestas y festividades, la selva, las comunidades indígenas, las plantas medicinales y muchos otros aspectos prometedores de esa tierra.
I’m grateful for these conversations because one of the things that depresses me the most is the thought that life will become a routine, that I will eventually lose the sense of awe and amusement for material life, and yet I will be stuck here for way longer than I would like to be.
Estoy agradecido por estas conversaciones porque una de las cosas que más me deprime es la idea de que la vida se pueda convertir en una rutina, que eventualmente perderé la sensación de asombro y diversión por la vida material, y sin embargo, estaré atrapado aquí por mucho más de lo que me gustaría ser.
Listening to other people talk of distant lands reminds me that this planet is huge, beautiful, and well worth exploring. Since right now I’m living near my home town, I often get caught up in its dramatic social relationships. Imagining new beginnings in sunny places filled with trees and beautiful lifeforms inspires me greatly to snap out of the trap: that these dramas that people focus on are just a tiny grain of sand in the vastness of our planet.
Escuchar a otras personas hablar de tierras lejanas me recuerda que este planeta es enorme, hermoso y que vale la pena explorarlo. Dado que ahora mismo vivo cerca de mi ciudad natal, a menudo me quedo atrapado en sus dramáticas relaciones sociales. Imaginar nuevos comienzos en lugares soleados llenos de árboles y hermosas formas de vida me inspira enormemente a salir de la trampa: que estos dramas en los que la gente se enfoca son solo un pequeño grano de arena en la inmensidad de nuestro planeta.
I think its very handy to keep in mind how big the world is. Even if you could manage to explore every corner of it, you would still have tons of things to discover, such as the depths of situations, human emotions, spiritual practices, etc.
Creo que es útil tener en cuenta lo grande que es el mundo. Incluso si pudieras explorar cada rincón, aún tendrías toneladas de cosas por descubrir, como las profundidades de las situaciones, las emociones humanas, las prácticas espirituales, etc.
When your world seems to shrink and make you feel trapped in some kind of cage where everybody knows what the joke is about, except you, it’s nice to remember that the decision to grab your shit and start again elsewhere is absolutely yours. The only thing capable of stopping you is your own mind!
Cuando tu mundo parece encogerse y hacerte sentir atrapado en una especie de jaula donde todos saben de qué se trata el chiste, excepto tú, es bueno recordar que la decisión de agarrar tu mierda y comenzar de nuevo en otro lugar es absolutamente tuya. ¡Lo único capaz de detenerte es tu propia mente!
So, despite feeling a bit trapped in the current situation where quarantine doesn’t allow free movement, and life has become tediously routinary, at least I can keep alive the dream of traveling again to visit unexpectedly colorful and lively places in this world. Dreaming raises hopes and morale, and while it’s a tricky exercise to avoid all this becoming anxiety, there are moments when its absolutely necessary.
Entonces, a pesar de sentirme un poco atrapado en la situación actual donde la cuarentena no permite la libre circulación y la vida se ha vuelto un poco rutinaria, al menos puedo mantener vivo el sueño de viajar nuevamente para visitar lugares inesperadamente coloridos y animados en este mundo. Soñar entrega la esperanza y mejora la moral, y si bien es un ejercicio complicado para evitar que todo esto se convierta en ansiedad, hay momentos en los que es absolutamente necesario.
