[Short Story Multi-language En-Sp-Cn] Visiting my old neighborhood - Visitando mi antiguo vecindario - 拜访我的老邻居

Some time ago I published a series of short stories as part of creativity exercises, now, I am using these short stories as a basis to develop a series of publications in the three most spoken languages of the world, partly as a curiosity and partly as a way to entertain myself :)

This street hasn't changed much, if it weren't for the fact that the cars are from recent years and the paintings on the houses have changed a bit, because I wouldn't be able to notice the passage of time.

"Hello, Mr. Marco." I greeted as I passed the old newsstand of the older man that I used to buy from when I was a child, he is a man of very few words and he simply nodded his head to answer and continued in silence.

I just smiled at his answer, it cannot be said that it is very warm, but it is normal for him. Still, he hasn't seen me in several years, but he seems to greet me like he bought the newspaper yesterday at this place.

It has been a long time since I bought the printed press, I am going to buy a copy, even if it is out of nostalgia and also because of the feeling that it would be rude not to collaborate with the way of life of this taciturn old man.

I see that time has also come to this old position, there is a security camera with modulated led lighting, an electronic box for payment, contactless collection points and other things that have somehow been accommodated in the old counter, almost achieving make it look like they were part of the set for a long time.

"I see you have new equipment. It doesn't show much from the outside, it looks good with the old decor. Did you hire a professional for the installation? I just doubt that the contract workers of the common companies do a job with such detail and care."

The taciturn old man seemed to take on a little life in his eyes and he answered me "My nephew"

I got two words out of this old man!

That is something tremendous knowing that he does not speak much, he must be very proud of the boy.

He noticed as I choose a newspaper that has various magazines, some goodies as always, but there is something a little strange. In one part of the décor, I see a catalog of e-books, virtual magazines, and web media, all with a code to scan.

I understand, when taking the photo with the mobile device, it is recorded that the sale was made from the electronic account affiliated by Mr. Marco, so it can sell even to the younger generations.

I am filled with admiration, this old man seemed to be frozen in time, but instead he has adapted in an excellent way, he has to sell to his old clientele and also to the new one. He is undoubtedly a good trader.

I turned to look at him and proceed to pay and I noticed that he was looking at me, his lips were smiling and his eyes were bright, being an old man he had almost the expression of a mischievous child. That gave me a bit of weird feelings, I didn't think the taciturn old man I remembered could make that face.

"Surprised?" I wonder.

This is something historical! This old man who almost never speaks has spoken to me of his own free will, I did not have to spoon the words out of his throat or press him with a question to see if he would respond with a gesture or words.

"Quite surprised" I answered honestly. "Everything is integrated with practicality and simplicity, as if this store was this way all the time, but I see that it has everything you need for customers, be it old or new."

The old man smiled at me with a marked pride for my evaluation, made the payment of my purchase with the corresponding device and nodded again to let me know that everything was ready and I could go.

I see that some things never change. I have already left and on my way home, I am thinking again and I pay more attention to my surroundings, actually if things may be changing more than I am able to notice with the naked eye, after all I just had a sample of such reality just a few minutes ago.

Solo sonreí ante su respuesta, no se puede decir que sea muy cálido, pero es normal para él. Aún así, no me ha visto en varios años, pero parece saludarme como si hubiera comprado el periódico ayer en este lugar.

Ha pasado mucho tiempo desde que compré un periódico impreso, me voy a comprar un ejemplar, aunque sea por nostalgia y también por la sensación de que sería de mala educación no colaborar con la forma de vida de este anciano taciturno.

Veo que también han llegado cosas modernas a este viejo lugar, hay una cámara de seguridad con iluminación led modulada, una caja electrónica de pago, puntos de pago sin contacto y otras cosas, que de alguna manera se han acomodado en el antiguo mostrador, casi logrando que parezca fueron parte de este sitio durante mucho tiempo.

"Veo que tiene equipo nuevo. No se nota mucho desde afuera, se ve bien con la decoración antigua. ¿Contrató a un profesional para la instalación? Solo dudo que los trabajadores contratados de las empresas comunes hagan un trabajo con tal detalle y cuidado".

El anciano taciturno parecía cobrar un poco de vida en sus ojos y me respondió "Mi sobrino"

Eso es algo tremendo sabiendo que no habla mucho, debe estar muy orgulloso del chico.

Se dio cuenta de cómo elegí un periódico que tiene varias revistas, algunas golosinas como siempre, pero hay algo un poco extraño. En una parte de la decoración, veo un catálogo de libros electrónicos, revistas virtuales y medios web, todos con un código para escanear.

Entiendo, al tomar la foto con el dispositivo móvil, se registra que la venta se realizó desde la cuenta electrónica afiliada al Sr. Marco, por lo que se puede vender incluso a las generaciones más jóvenes.

Estoy lleno de admiración, este anciano parecía estar congelado en el tiempo, pero en cambio se ha adaptado de manera excelente, tiene que vender a su antigua clientela y también a la nueva. Sin duda, es un buen comerciante.

Me volví para mirarlo, procedí a pagar y noté que me estaba mirando, sus labios sonreían y sus ojos brillaban, siendo un anciano tenía casi la expresión de un niño travieso. Eso me dio un poco de sentimientos extraños, no pensé que el viejo taciturno que recordaba pudiera poner esa cara.

"¿Sorprendido?" Me pregunto.

¡Esto es algo histórico! Este anciano que casi nunca habla me ha hablado por su propia voluntad, no tuve que sacarle las palabras de la garganta ni presionarlo con una pregunta para ver si respondía con un gesto o con palabras.

"Bastante sorprendido" respondí honestamente. “Todo se integra con practicidad y sencillez, como si esta tienda fuera así todo el tiempo, veo que tiene todo lo que necesitan los clientes, sean viejos o nuevos”.

El anciano me sonrió con marcado orgullo por mi valoración, hizo el pago de mi compra con el dispositivo correspondiente y volvió a asentir para avisarme que todo estaba listo y que podía irme.

Veo que algunas cosas nunca cambian. Ya me fui y de camino a casa, estoy pensando de nuevo y presto más atención a mi entorno, de hecho las cosas pueden estar cambiando más de lo que puedo notar a simple vista, después de todo acabo de tener una muestra de tal realidad hace apenas unos minutos.
