The following photo is the one I picked from Zord’s selection.
The photo shows a person at dusk, dressed to brave the colder elements, warming his hands by an open fire. This fire would keep him safe at night from wild animals and heat his food and water for tea.
Fire is his friend. It gives him pleasant comfort this evening on this solitary three day trek to the bottom of the mountain to meet his friend.

No one is sure how mankind first learned about fire. I’m sure early man experienced lightning hitting a tree and catching fire. There’s stories in mythology of the Greek god Prometheus bringIng fire to earth people. It is said he felt sorry for humans and stole fire from Mount Olympus and gave it to mankind.
Fire - A Blessing And A Curse
Fire - a blessing to the cave people as it kept them warm, cooked their food and kept wild animals away at night. It was the first time they could move light and heat around in the form of fire to suit their needs.
The power of fire fascinated mankind since the first time a caveman rubbed two sticks or two pieces of flint together to start one.
As a youngster I remember my father setting fire to a field to burn the grass. Of course it was a controlled fire and a common way to keep the grass down in those days of yore.
Besides seeing fires used for economical reasons, I’ve sat around a lot of outdoor fires with wiener and marshmallow roasts at my sister’s cottage and hubby’s fire pit here in the backyard.
A fun time singing to fiddle and guitar by a outdoor fire at a friend’s place.
Hubby usually has a fire in early spring to clean up the yard. I have wrapped potatoes in tin foil and let them cook under the fire. Somehow cooking outdoor gives food a special flavor and increases the appetite. Ok, maybe it’s the fresh air giving that appetite. :)
Another fire to get rid of sticks and wood around the property. There are bylaws about burning and only certain times of the year are fires allowed outside.
Fire - a curse when out of control. Fire has burned down forests, houses and killed people and animals.
Fire must be respected for it can burn your house down and everything in it in a matter of a hour. It can level a beautiful forest and leave only a trail of ash in it’s wake.

Fire needs heat fuel and oxygen to keep burning, The element of water is a strong force in quenching the fire when it becomes a curse.
