The Slow Death
My phone died on Friday afternoon. It was long overdue for an upgrade, being an Samsung Galaxy S5. There have been a few close calls and panic attacks along the way. Chuckle.
But on Friday, the phone started playing up and not wanting to recharge, then it would recharge.
So I turned it on and it wouldn't get past the opening logo and it started over-heating to the point of being too hot to touch!
It also won't turn off, meaning I have to pull the battery out to stop it.
I have swapped batteries, and tried all sorts hacks from YouTube. All to no avail.
The phone is essentially dead.

The history of the phone is rather long. It was second hand when I got it, and it turns out it was water damaged too. The screen used to flicker occasionally as well.
The real panic is the realisation of how many services, especially Government ones, require the phone for two factor authentication.
No phone, no service it seems.
But in a world of hackers and identity fraud what are you going to do?
The New Phone
I had a choice of a cheap phone that would take my Micro SIM card or upgrade to a more expensive option with the newer Nano SIM card.
I chose the more expensive option and it was money I didn't want to spend this close to Christmas.
What I got was a Samsung A11 and so far It's OK. The video quality of the rear camera and even photos inside are not the best.
Rubbish actually.
The photo above is from the rear camera, with a live filter option in a well lit room, that also serves as a quarantine beard update.
The front cameras are amazing though, with even professional settings.
Ecency On My Phone

One of the first things I did was install and set up the various essential services.
Then of course the new
Splinterlandsapp (available from the Google and Apple app stores so I can play on the go and generate DEC a lot faster.
Then finally Ecency. This allows me to also create more content on the fly.
It's also available in the app store.
I also have Ecency on my iPad but my iPad doesn't have a SIM card slot. So, having Ecency on my phone means that I can transfer Hive to someone else's account right in front of them for cash or whatever is needed to be exchanged.
For those scared about having their keys on mobile devices, Hivesigner is an option or you can use or alternatively you can use a Hive password.
If that's not secure enough, you could always write notes on your phone and then email them to a home PC.
Personally, I'm really pleased with it.
Now I just have to get my own logo into the phone. Chuckle.
Let's see...
