In the last decade, horror games have evolved in a strange way, 20 years ago, Silent Hill 2 came to be remembered as one of the best horror games of all time, it was the golden age of Silent Hill, today is reduced to pachinkos (literally), other games would appear later, such as F.E.A.R. and Amnesia: The Dark Descent, BUT THERE IS ONE GAME, which in my opinion marked a before and after in the world of horror games, a "turning point", and this is Slender: The Eight Pages, a game made in Unity that went around the world for its formula, you had to collect 8 pages in the forest with nothing more than a flashlight to guide you, while a very tall and thin weird dude followed you, I think it's no exaggeration to say that many played it at the time, it also happens that the game came out in 2012, by those years YouTube was getting more and more filled with gameplays of different things, they weren't something particularly new, but in part Slender became popular thanks to the "YouTubers", some time later came out Slender: The Arrival, but that's another topic. After Slender, things took a turn, and horror games began to change, a lot of games came out that tried the same formula with other characters, such as Slendytubbies (guess who appears there), but then another game appeared that became equally or more viral than Slender, Five Nights at Freddy's, a franchise that at this point doesn't need any kind of introduction. Since FNAF, everything was animatronics, a good part of horror games tried to follow FNAF's footsteps, as others did at the time with Slender, the genre was changing more and more towards a type of horror more focused on jumpscares and loud sounds, unlike the psychological horror of games like Silent Hill, I'm not going to talk about Poppy Playtime or other examples that aren't relevant, but I'll go directly to my next important point: Among Us. A couple of days ago I was browsing Itch.io to download the new demo of Rusted Moss, a Metroidvania that I'm really looking forward to, but while I was out there, a game called "Slendergus" caught my attention, I didn't know it at all but I understood its purpose instantly, as it was free, so I downloaded it IMMEDIATELY, even as I write these words, I don't regret it. Slendergus combines two great Internet acquaintances, Slender and Among Us, instead of escaping from Slenderman in a forest, we'll be a crewmate escaping from another "crewmate" who is KINDA sus, but it won't be any crew member, but that of the extremely well known meme "A M O G U S", that one all gray and deformed. If you already played any game similar to Slender, you'll imagine the gameplay, you have to go through the map looking for 8 pages while avoiding at all costs the impostor, said map is the same ship of Among Us, "The Skeld", in which most people usually play in the real Among Us. As crew members, we have a couple of skills that will help us escape from the impostor, we can turn the flashlight on and off, peek over the edges of walls, open and close doors (the noise attracts the impostor), run (also attracts the impostor) and get into vents to hide, the latter is very useful, but we can't do it while the impostor is chasing us and is aware of where we are. Despite being a game that stands on literally two living memes, it's quite well thought out at the level of customization, for starters we have three different difficulties, Beginner, where the 8 pages appear immediately, Normal, where there are also 8 pages but only 4 appear at a time, ie, we have to collect 4 so that the other 4 appear, and finally, Sussy, where the impostor is FASTER and also only one page will appear at a time, which forces us to go around the ship avoiding the impostor, luckily we can triangulate his position because he has the habit of saying "AMOGUS" every so many seconds, and although the game generates tension, it's still fun. There are two additional difficulties, one is designed for Speedruns, and the other is completely customizable, we can configure the number of pages, how many appear, our speed, the impostor's speed, and EVEN the number of impostors, I'll just say that I could successfully play a game with 20 impostors, obviously with that many impostors is impossible to win, but it was funny to see so many amogus doing amogus haha. EVEN, it offers a multiplayer mode, to search the pages with friends, but honestly I have no idea how it works, as I had no way to test it, but it seems to use a room system similar to the real Among Us. In conclusion, this game is a meme with legs, its purpose is that beyond anything else, and it's fine to kill some time, but little more, despite that I wanted to share it with you, being free it's very easy to download it and try it without problems, it doesn't ask for an excessively powerful pc, but I had to play it with the graphics to the minimum so that my pc didn't explode haha. En la última década, los juegos de terror han evolucionado de forma extraña, hace 20 años, Silent Hill 2 llegaba para ser recordado como uno de los mejores juegos de terror de todos los tiempos, era la época dorada de Silent Hill, hoy día está reducida a pachinkos (literalmente), otros juegos aparecerían después, como F.E.A.R y Amnesia: The Dark Descent, PERO HAY UN JUEGO, que a mi parecer marcó un antes y un después en el mundo de los juegos de terror, un “punto de inflexión”, y este es Slender: The Eight Pages, un juego hecho en Unity que le dio la vuelta al mundo por su fórmula, tenías que recoger 8 notas en el bosque con nada más que una linterna para orientarte, mientas un tipo raro muy alto y muy delgado te seguía, creo que no es exagerado decir que muchos lo probaron en su momento, también sucede que el juego salió en 2012, por esos años YouTube se llenaba cada vez más y más de gameplays de diferentes cosas, no eran algo particularmente nuevo, pero en parte Slender se popularizó gracias a los “YouTubers”, tiempo después salió Slender: The Arrival, pero ese es otro tema. A partir de Slender, las cosas tomaron un giro, y los juegos de terror empezaron a cambiar, salieron un montón de juegos que intentaron la misma fórmula con otros personajes, como el Slendytubbies (a que no adivinan quién aparece allí), pero luego apareció otro juego que se hizo igual o más viral que el mismísimo Slender, Five Nights at Freddy’s, una franquicia que a estas alturas no necesita ningún tipo de presentación. Desde FNAF, todo eran animatrónicos, una buena parte de juegos de terror intentaron seguir los pasos de FNAF, al igual que hicieron en su momento con Slender, el género cambiaba cada vez más hacia un tipo de terror más enfocado en jumpscares y sonidos fuertes, a diferencia del terror psicológico de juegos como Silent Hill, no voy a ponerme a hablar de Poppy Playtime u otros ejemplos que no vienen al caso, sino que pasaré directamente a mi siguiente punto importante: Among Us. ¿Recuerdan como les dije que había un montón de juegos en su momento que copiaron la fórmula de Slender?, pues este es un caso similar. Hace un par de días estaba navegando por Itch.io para descargar la nueva demo de Rusted Moss, un Metroidvania que espero con muchas ganas, pero mientras estaba por ahí, un juego llamado “Slendergus” llamó mi atención, no lo conocía de nada pero entendí su propósito al instante, como era gratuito, lo descargué INMEDIATAMENTE, aún mientras escribo estas palabras, no me arrepiento. Si ya jugaron a cualquier juego similar a Slender, se imaginarán la jugabilidad, tienen que recorrer el mapa buscando 8 notas mientras evitan a toda costa al impostor, dicho mapa es la misma nave del Among Us, “The Skeld”, en la que suele jugar la mayoría de personas dentro del verdadero Among Us. Como tripulantes, tenemos un par de habilidades que nos ayudarán a escapar del impostor, podemos encender y apagar la linterna, asomarnos por los bordes de las paredes, abrir y cerrar puertas (el ruido atrae al impostor), correr (también atrae al impostor) y meternos en los ductos para escondernos, esto último es muy útil, pero no podemos hacerlo mientras el impostor nos persigue y es consciente de dónde estamos. A pesar de ser un juego que se sostiene en literalmente dos memes vivientes, está bastante bien pensado a nivel de personalización, para empezar tenemos tres dificultades diferentes, Beginner, donde las 8 notas aparecen inmediatamente, Normal, donde también hay 8 notas pero solo aparecen 4 a la vez, es decir, tenemos que recoger 4 para que aparezcan las otras 4, y finalmente, Sussy, donde el impostor es MÁS rápido y además solo aparecerá una nota a la vez, lo que nos obliga a dar vueltas por toda la nave evitando al impostor, por suerte podemos triangular su posición gracias a que tiene la costumbre de decir “AMOGUS” cada tantos segundos, y aunque el juego genera tensión, no deja de ser divertido. Hay dos dificultades adicionales, una es pensada para Speedruns, y la otra es completamente personalizable, podemos configurar el número de notas, cuántas aparecen, nuestra velocidad, la del impostor, e INLCUSO el número de impostores, solo les diré que pude jugar exitosamente a una partida con 20 impostores, obviamente esta partida es imposible de ganar, pero fue chistoso ver a tantos amogus haciendo amogus haha. INCLUSO, ofrece un modo multijugador, para buscar las páginas con amigos, pero sinceramente no tengo la menor idea de cómo funciona, pues no tenía manera de probarlo, pero parece ocupar un sistema de salas similar al del Among Us real. En conclusión, este juego es un meme con patas, su propósito es ese más allá de cualquier otra cosa, y está muy bien para pasar el rato, pero poco más, a pesar de eso quería compartirlo con ustedes, al ser gratis es muy fácil descargarlo y probarlo sin problemas, tampoco pide una pc excesivamente potente, pero yo tuve que jugarlo con los gráficos al mínimo para que mi pc no explotara haha.
