There is risk free investment in EPF (Employee Provident Fund) and PPF (Public Provident Fund). Investments made in both these mediums get fixed returns of around 9 per cent annually. Tax exemption is also available on investments made in EPF and PPF. The interest paid on the investment amount is also tax free. Just like traders need capital for business. Similarly, governments also require capital to work. Typically this capital is raised by taxing the government. But sometimes the government issues bonds for a particular project. Interest on the bond issued by the government gets a little less, but it guarantees the security of capital in the government. Therefore it is considered as a safe investment. The government specifically issues infrastructure bonds. Similarly, large corporates also issue bonds to raise capital from the market. Large companies such as Tata, Mahindra, Reliance, L & T etc. issue corporate bonds. The bonds of these companies are also low in risk.
