Nimrod Fortress is a medieval Muslim castle on the Southern slopes of Mount Hermon. It was built around 1229 AD with a purpose of guarding a major access rout to Damascus against the armies of the sixth Crusade.
Following the Muslim conquest of Akko in 1291 and the end of Crusade rule in the Holy Land, the fortress lost it's strategic value and fell into disrepair.
