The 3 Crypto.com Apps
I have these three apps on my phone, and I have used two of them extensively and one rarely. I get a lot of questions from people about these three apps so I created a video explaining each one. They all deal with cryptocurrencies, but they each have distinct purposes and functionalities and are targeted at slightly different groups of people:
Crypto.com App:
- Custodial wallet: This means Crypto.com holds the private keys to your crypto on your behalf. Not your keys, not your crypto as we say.
- Easier to use: User-friendly interface designed for beginners and casual users.
- Limited features: Primarily focused on buying, selling, and trading cryptocurrencies.
- Earn rewards: Offers various ways to earn rewards on your crypto holdings (staking, interest, etc.).
- Fiat currency support: Allows buying and selling crypto with fiat currencies like USD and EUR.
- Visa Debit Cards: Used to manage debit cards including pin numbers and freezing the card.
Crypto.com Exchange:
- Advanced trading platform: Offers a wider range of order types, charting tools, and technical analysis features for experienced traders.
- Higher fees: Generally higher fees compared to the Crypto.com App.
- Margin trading: Enables trading with borrowed funds for potentially higher returns (but also higher risks).
- Wider selection of cryptocurrencies: Supports a larger number of cryptocurrencies compared to the App.
- No fiat currency support: Requires depositing existing crypto to start trading.
Crypto.com DeFi Wallet:
- Non-custodial wallet: You have complete control over your private keys and crypto assets.
- DeFi integration: Allows interacting with DeFi protocols like lending, borrowing, and staking directly from the wallet.
- Advanced features: Supports swapping tokens across multiple blockchains, managing NFTs, and connecting to DApps.
- Steeper learning curve: Requires more technical knowledge and responsibility compared to the App.
- No fiat currency support: Requires depositing existing crypto from other sources.
Here's a table summarising the key differences:
Feature | Crypto.com App | Crypto.com Exchange | Crypto.com DeFi Wallet |
---|---|---|---|
Wallet type | Custodial | Non-custodial | Non-custodial |
Target audience | Beginners, casual users | Experienced traders | Advanced users, DeFi enthusiasts |
Features | Easy buying/selling, limited trading | Advanced trading, margin trading | DeFi integration, multi-chain swaps, NFTs |
Fees | Lower | Higher | Network fees only |
Fiat currency support | Yes | No | No |
The one that I use the most is the DeFi wallet these days, since I hold coins in there. Prior to that, I used the main app the most because I own a Visa Debit card and staked a fair bit of $CRO which gave me free Spotify and Netflix. When the bear market hit, Crypto.com decided to end many of the perks, so I unstaked my $CRO tokens and sought greener crypto pastures.
Peace & Love,
