What I think about Steem and the community; would love some feedback in the comments.
My introduction to Crypto-currencies
I first came to know about crypto-currencies in the mid-2013. The idea was pretty foreign to me. I mean crypto-currencies?! Who would've thought of that, I thought. I asked my friend to tell me more about cryptos and he did. Needless to say, I was amazed. It dawned on me that this was definitely the future. My friend was running a BTC miner at the time which I had no what was.
He explained how the blockchains work, the supply growth of bitcoin, how people mine bitcoin, et cetera. It was pretty fascinating for me how all of that worked particularly how all transactions are kept publicly and permanently so anyone can see them. In short, it's not anonymous. It's pretty transparent which I admire. I bought and set up a miner just for the hell of it. To be honest, it was incredibly educational. I'd write a few short stories and stuff while I waited for the payout.
When I received my first payout, it was pretty awesome. I had this sense of accomplishment like I cured cancer or something. Really it feels good to have learned something AND have been rewarded for it which is like a win-win-win.
Emergence of other crypto-coins
Soon after, many other cryptocoins emerged, notably Litecoin and Dogecoin. I bought and set up a litecoin miner because at that point using the bitcoin miner was just not profitable for me anymore. Same thing happened with litecoin so I set up a dogecoin miner.
At this point almost all of the top cryptocoins are useless to mine, unless you have a pretty beefy computer or you run a bitcoin mining center/farm or something.
Right now, there are a ton of cryptocoins available. Some of them are even rewarded for helping scientists all over the world in their research. For example, Gridcoin is rewarded for helping scientists at places like CERN using BOINC.
All in all, crypto-currencies have become astonishingly educational. Hell, they reward you for getting educated. You can help make scientists all over the world make ground-breaking discoveries while getting rewarded. If you don't think that that's amazing, then there is something wrong with you.
Finally, STEEM and the community
Ah yes. Steem. As you all may know, its a social media platform. Where you get rewarded for voting on and posting content. It's as good as it gets really. I have been in crypto scene since that time and I think that Steem has the potential to become amazing and even exceed our expectations. That's not to say its not amazing already, don't get me wrong. It's pretty amazing.
I think steem is pretty great because it rewards content creators. That makes for an awesome community. If you go to the trending section you'd see that many people are migrating their blogs to STEEMIT. It's because they see potential in this platform, they see that steem can and will become the next big thing. This is awesome for us as a community because it attracts such people to our community. These people are our biggest assets.
Though, this is not to say that all the eggs are fresh and eatable. Of course there are a few bad egg(s) like there are in almost every community. A hack happened prior to my joining which has affected a lot of people. It's really sad to see something happen like this and I can only imagine how it would be for the victims. The devs have said that they will reimburse the accounts(?) which is pretty amazing.
I believe that people and communities make awesome things happens and Steem is no exception. We will just have to wait and see what the future holds for us and I can assure you it's nothing less that amazing.
I hope that you have enjoyed this post, let me know in the comments.
