I have faith that many people who are already a part of the steemit community know how to spot a scamcoin, but as steemit grows there will be a lot of inexperienced users participating in trading and investing.
Just recently the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) busted a man named Homero Joshua Garza, for running two separate mining scheme operations. The two companies were known as GAW Miners and ZenMiner. This ponzi scheme racked up a LOT of money. He is now facing a $12 million penalty.
Over 10,000 investors joined the ponzi scheme, and Homero was able to aquire a hefty $20,000,000.
