What has been more irritating than the Cambridge Analytica Scandal and the #CrytpoBan COMBINED is the underlying hypocrisy that is Mark Zuckerberg’s ultimate way of saying, probably under his breath, “Facebook does whatever the fck it wants.”*
To say the least, Facebook been under some heavy heat recently for privacy issues and data censorship, among other things.
In a May 2018 article in the Wall Street Journal, Deepa Seetharman informed readers about Zuck’s Double-Standard on privacy.
The writer illustrated two scenarios for dealing with data privacy on FB, one policy for the general public, the other for Facebook employees:
- For the general public, a select group of Facebook employees are allowed to access user profiles without the user being warned, BUT that isn’t true if you work at Facebook.
- When someone within the company peers into a colleague’s internal account, that colleague whose account is being compromised is warned.
The warning is called the Sauron Alert.
(And yes, for those of you who are thinking it, this is a CREEPY reference to the all-seeing eye from the Lord of the Rings- you are nerdy and correct).
So tell me, why is it fair that Facebook employees get to know when other colleagues are peering into their profile, but when Facebook does it to other people, it is okay?
It’s not fair. I know, I know- life isn’t fair.
But that is just one of two gross double standards that have come from Facebook this week.
The second is that Facebook has famously banned ads that promote cryptocurrency and other deceptive financial products, but just made one HUGE EXCEPTION. Below is the policy that came out a few weeks ago regarding the status of cryptocurrency:
“Ads must not promote financial products and services that are frequently associated with misleading or deceptive promotional tactics, such as binary options, initial coin offerings, or cryptocurrency.”
Yet, that’s not actually true… for e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e.
The other day, I was taking a rare scroll through Facebook (I was actually conducting researching for a current project that I am working on to see which blockchains have managed to change letters in words like blockchain [to make blcokchain for example] to bypass the FB ban.
For some reason, I wasn’t able to find any ads that were able to do that. I refreshed the browser about 10 times so I could continue generating more ads, ensuring a wider sample size for my research. Yet, I still was unable to find any blockchains that have bypassed the law.
But then I found one.
An ad for tZERO appeared.
Yes the VERY FAMOUS BLOCKCHAIN from Overstock.com that is currently in live offering mode a on StartEngine as an Alternative Trading System. The same blockchain that billionaire George Soros is directly tired to after taking on a 10% stake at Overstock.com last year.
ONLY Accredited Investors are allowed to participate in the fundraising. Accredited investors need to prove that they make over $200,000 a year or have over 1 million under their possession. This leaves over 99% of crypto enthusiasts out.
Want to read more about Alternative Trading Systems? Look here.
Meanwhile, small OPOs on StartEngine such as Unicoin.life do not get to use Facebook to advertise at all. Seems fair, right?
This is anti-small business and anti-American. But it makes sense coming out of Mark Zuckerberg’s swamp.
It almost makes sense that an elitist structure like tZERO’s Alternative Trading System would exclusively be allowed to advertise on Facebook’s platform. It’s almost like the Facebook swamp was cleared from EVERY SINGLE OTHER BLOCKCHAIN TO MAKE WAY FOR THIS ELITIST BLOCKCHAIN TO HAVE FREE REIGN. hmmmmmm
/end rant.
If anyone has an inkling as to why Facebook is allowing this to happen, please share. Responses can address either Double Standard touched upon in this article. There is a lot of room to work with. I hope I hear some mouths barking about this.
Stop getting CyberBullied by Mark Zuckerberg.
Also, I just quit my job and dropped out of school to write about blockchain. Please consider tipping me in ETH as I would love to conintue eating, bathing, and eating Name Brand cereal.
