What is Lisk?
With the main goal of making blockchain development easily accessible, Lisk was forked and brought in existence by Max Kordex and Oliver Beddows in May of 2016
Like most things we talk about here lisk is an open source blockchain platform with is powered by Lisk or LSK tokens that allows developers code decentralised applications also known as dApps in the programming language JavaScript.
This is the same programming language as NEO and it is the most popular programming language.
With LISK developers can build applications on their sidechain linked to the LISK network as well as their custom token.
In this lisk could be considered similar to the Ethereum blockchain. However, the lisk platform wasn’t built to create smart contracts, but to develop diverse apps and functionalities using the LISK appSDK framework.

Decentralized Application Development on Lisk
Dapps include packages of front and back ends. A smart contract, however, is just a backend process. In other words, developing a Decentralised app on smart contracts would mean that you have to rely on third party systems for the front end.

Setting Up A Wallet For Lisk
Other than holding Lisk on exchanges, The Lisk Nano is the official wallet for LSK tokens.
