I would like to start this post with a few questions:
- Is there anybody in the CTP community who you consider to be successful?
- Is there anybody in the bigger HIVE community who you consider to be successful?
- During the time that you have been active on this platform, have you seen anybody who you would say is making progress in terms of growth, development, or any other area?
- If your answer to one or more of these questions were yes, would you regard such a person as a role model?
Life is About Choices.
Every day of our lives, we have to make choices. And the company we keep is one of the most important choices we can ever make.
I recall attending a public meeting some time ago. The speaker told us about an incident where a mother received the horrifying news that her teenage son was a passenger in a vehicle that was involved in a serious collision. They were five youngsters in the car. The driver was under the influence of alcohol and some drugs were found in the vehicle too.
The mother was beyond herself with shock and didn't want to accept that her son was in that vehicle. She didn't want to believe that he would ever be involved with any drug-and-alcohol abuse.
Then the speaker followed up by telling us that he could actually predict your future. What? He had us all thinking for a few moments...and then followed up by saying "show me your friends...the people you hang out with...and I'll tell you where you will end up five years from now."
What he wanted to get across to us, is that the people you keep company with, have a major impact on your life. You eventually become like them. That is exactly why you hear it often when successful people would give the advice that "if you want to become successful, surround yourself with successful people".
So, look at those questions again at the beginning of this post and I'm sure you will start seeing how that exact same principle is playing out right in front of your eyes, right here on this platform.
Having a Role Model and Being a Role Model
In your journey towards success, it is good to have a role model. But, be determined to remain yourself and don't sacrifice your own personality in the process.
Study that person and duplicate/copy what he or she does as good as you can. That is good. But don't become a second Robert Kiyosaki or Arnold Schwarzenegger. That is being a fake.
On the other hand, remember that all of us are role models, whether we know it or not. You might think you are still a mister or miss nobody, but somewhere...when and where you least expect it...someone is watching you.
It might be your little three-year-old at home, it might be a little sister or brother, but believe me, someone is watching you. And to that person, you're a hero.
So, take pride in what you do and in who you are, you never know who is watching.
And being part of the CTP tribe, we are in a good place. If you want to predict how I will turn out 5 years from now, based on the company I keep here, I have a very positive feeling!
