I wanted to share a funny story about something I did that was way out of my comfort zone while I was still working at the company I worked for after getting my Masters Degree in Library Science.
The first couple years of that job were awesome because I was doing exactly what I wanted to do. I was cataloging books and I was really good at it. So good that it irritated my supervisor. It got to the point where she was proofreading my cataloging records and grumbling and snorting because she couldn't find any errors in my work. I could hear her because her cubicle was right next to mine. So she and our department manager decided that it would be a really good idea for me to lead a team and have my own two direct reports whose work I would oversee as well as doing my own. I was not happy but I was given no choice.
I hated that supervising job. I never ever wanted to manage anyone except myself. So after work one night I was looking for a way to work for myself. I ran across an ad for a company that did home parties selling adult toys. I know, right?! Can you imagine hating a job that much? Me either. I think I did one party that was at least an hour's drive one way in someone's home and don't even remember anyone buying anything. I didn't last very long at that.
My objection was driving all over hell and going into strange people's homes. We moved from our affordable town house that was a half an hour away from the company where I was working so I could be closer to work and not have to commute in the snow. So what sense would it make doing all that driving and not even knowing if I was going to make any money at all? None. Eventually I also got fired from my job because I wasn't doing the whole supervising part. I was a hands off supervisor.
I have never ever told anyone that story before. I can't even believe that I let that cat out of the bag at all. But hey it was a way long time ago and honestly it is funny to think about it.
I am hoping this helps @pixiepost find some of that #pixiedust she is missing.
Have a great day everyone!
