So I was just playing monopoly with my cousins when my car landed on "Free Parking" and it hit me what is the so called "Free Parking" really supposed to do in the game?! As I delved deeper into the rabbit hole I uncovered some things that I've been playing monopoly wrong and some other cool facts so here they are:
The Free Parking
So turns out in every rule book that comes with monopoly there is a sentence which actually says that the free parking does nothing. Crazy right?! what is even more insane is that during a study done by Hasbro ,The parent company of monopoly, 68% of people admitted that they've never actually read the game's rules and 38% of the players just straight up made their own rules of the games.
Waiting one turn before starting to buy
Speaking of making rules up, nowhere in the rule book does it say that a player has to wait until he/she has made it around the board once before buying. It is simply made up. Another surprising thing is that whenever a player lands on a piece of property and wishes not to buy the property is auctioned off by the bank to the highest bidder including the player who declined purchasing it before.
Debt
So when playing a game and a player goes bankrupt which is simply when he/she has more debt to you than the assets they currently own all of that player's assets get sold to the bank and the assets are available for everyone to buy. Right?! Well not really, see that should only happen in the event that the player is in debt to the bank. However, if the player is in debt to you then their assets should be turned in to you.
That is it for now Hope you enjoyed this little bit of extra knowledge. One last thing is that if you haven't noticed this post is linked to a brand new tag called curious ball. This tag is supposed to be a fun and creative way of sharing little bits of knowledge like these with you guys. SO feel free to use it and Steem ON
