It was 5am ish, I don’t know why but I woke up, decided that it was light enough for me to get up even if I had not slept for long, I remember seeing around 10/11pm but even so I felt the need to rise — obviously the first thing I did was power up the machine and get in front of it.
That’s when I realised that the data plan was out, no websites loading, stuffed, dammit, I guess I should not have ignored those text messages eh — ugh, having put aside a little bit towards it, I knew I didn’t have enough (yet) that was maybe always in the back of my mind anyway perhaps, either way, I had not done it and it nearing 6am, my daughter would be here in a few hours — in the end @dayleeo flew in clutch and helped me get back on track from my backup wifi hotspot — always have data backups! :)
Which got me thinking about water, food and data, the new model of the ‘basics’ you need in this new ‘frontier’ of living and working — you need a connection to that big data grid in the sky, this globally connected hype network we jump in and frequent for a short while, dipping out to actually enjoy life outside of the web! :)
I mean, if you can have your data connections then you can find the other right, a place to crash, food and water — in some ways I think even buying houses or flats now people are finding out beforehand how fast the ‘connection’ is, it’s an important part of life now, your connection to the web, especially as we move into more accessibly information times.
I suggest multiple routers, multiple networks, multiple companies, latest firmwares, backup separate networks, wired connections over wireless protocols, hidden ssid and regular weekly or monthly security audits — sounds a lot right? Well it is and if you wanna be on the web going into the near future something that you need to get savvy about! :)
Of course you could always just piggy back of that gigabit co-working space a few times a week if you wanted to upload and schedule your releases, I know that eSteem Surfer as scheduling features if you wanna write everything offline and post it later in one big bulk slow rollout push, what I’m saying is have options! ;)
