I have the following letter I will be taking over to my congressman’s local office today and since it took up the time I would have spent writing my Dash for you to read I decided to share it with you folks.
My congressman is nearing the end of his first term in office so he needs to know exactly how I see things and what I expect from him as my representative.
My letter...
June 17, 2020
Greetings Dan,
These are challenging times we are in right now in this country and I pray each day that things will get better.
When you ran for office I had great faith that you were running to make a positive difference and you got my support in both the primary and general election.
Your term will be soon be expiring and I see your campaign signs up already. I can’t promise you my support in this upcoming election. I have some questions that I really need answered before I commit my vote to you in this upcoming election.
Before I get to my questions let me refresh your memory just a bit.
I attended your open house last summer at your Cypresswood office and I had a few moments afterward to speak with you.
I raised some concerns of mine too you, to which you said you would “look into” them. I also cautioned you to not just go along with “crowd” in DC and to actually do your own research. I think my exact words were, “things aren’t always as they appear to be.”
By now you are probably saying to yourself, “I remember this crazy old man”, but please hear me out.
Now for my questions:
• Is it crazy to believe in the United States Constitution?
• Is it crazy to believe that laws passed by Congress should be followed?
• Is it crazy to believe that the United States Code of Federal Regulations should be followed?
If you answered “no” to these questions then I think you will agree that I’m really not crazy at all; as those are all things I believe in.
I have a difficult time understanding why something as simple as written rules can’t be followed to the “letter of the law”.
Not following the law would make someone an “outlaw” right?
Not following such things that are clearly spelled out, (such as an oath), could lead a person to believe that something isn’t right.
Quite frankly; I’m at that point right now.
• As my elected congressman I need you to tell me what “rules” or “laws” we are operating under.
• If I have no rights, or no protection of those rights I do have, I really want to know.
• If I only have “privileges” that can be revoked or granted by license I want to know that as well.
The “not knowing” part greatly troubles me and I’m quite sure that others feel the same way I do. We are all adults here and I would just like to have the truth. Plain and simple truth is all I am asking for from you.
I wasn’t in Washington, D.C. for your swearing in ceremony so I can only go by what is written in the Congressional Record from January 3, 2019 which states:
SWEARING IN OF MEMBERS
The SPEAKER. According to precedent, the Chair will swear in the Members-elect en masse. The Members-elect will rise and raise their right hands. The Members-elect rose, and the Speaker administered the oath of office to them as follows: "Do you solemnly swear that you will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that you will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that you take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that you will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which you are about to enter, so help you God."
The SPEAKER. "Congratulations. You are now Members of the 116th Congress.”
I can show you that the “oath of office” you took to be a congressman did not satisfy the Sixth Article of the Constitution as required.
Something else for you to consider about that oath is why would the Congressional record for that day say in it that the oath you took satisfies with the Sixth Article when it clearly doesn’t?
Here is Article VI of the Constitution so you won’t have to go looking for it.
All Debts contracted and Engagements entered into, before the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation.
This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.
The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.
The last paragraph distinctly says “but no religious Test shall ever be required”, now think back to that oath you took to be in the congress. Didn’t it conclude with “So help you God.”, that my good man is a “religious test”, and I also have the actual oath that is required for you to have taken.
The oath can be found in the First Acts of the First Congress in section one. “Be it enacted by the Senate and [House of] Representatives of the United States of America assembled, That the oath or affirmation required by the sixth article of the Constitution of the United States, shall be administered in the form following, to wit: “ I, A. B., do solemnly swear or affirm (as the case maybe) that I will support the Constitution of the United States.”
That is it Dan; when did you take this oath of office?
The oath is one sentence. No religious test and it clearly stated that this is the oath that satisfies the Sixth Article of the Constitution. All that is needed is for you to use your name in place of A. B.
There isn’t any other oath that satisfies the Sixth Article of the Constitution so please explain to me what is going on.
Also, I’d like to know just when Congress decided to go away from the required oath and go to this one that was used to swear you in as a congressman.
The Congressional Record said, “according to precedent” , well just when was this “precedent” started? How long ago did Congress abandon the Constitution?
Last summer when I met you and said to you “things aren’t always as they appear to be” I meant it.
You appear to be “congressman” but you now know that you and none of the others in Congress have taken the proper oath of office that confers that authority to you.
Dan, I have to believe you are a man of your word.
I know you took an oath to defend this country and the Constitution when you joined the military and I am asking that you live up to that oath now.
Can I count on you to 'right this wrong'? Be the hero this country is in need of right now.
With great appreciation for your military service,
Sult N Papper
I will be...
I will be hand delivering this letter today to his local office and I am going to ask the office manager to look up everything I've quoted in the letter so that she can attest to the congressman that everything is factual.
Then I am going to ask her to forward it on to the congressman so he can then reply.
Do I think he will pay any attention to it? I honestly don't know.
A lot of time has passed since he got to Washington. I believe he went there as an honest man but living and working in the swamp usually leads to folks coming down with swamp fever. Only time will tell if he is well or sick just like the rest of them.
I will keep you posted,
Sult
