Every company sells your data
You frequently see that privacy-oriented platforms, such as browser engines (duckduckgo) and vpns (especially free ones) still sell personal data, despite their marketing catering to privacy-oriented and sensitive people
in reality, everything you do is sold as data
your phone collects and sells your data 24/7, you can talk about a topic near your phone and it'll send you ads based on that an hour later
not even what you search is collected, but also how long you visit certain webpages or how your mouse hovers, or how you react to certain advertisements
it's all done to create user profiles which predict behaviour to tailor advertisement
but in the end, you're not even an individual to any of those companies or algorithms, just a bunch of data
