It’s brought attention to the Steem blockchain both good and bad.
No publicity is bad publicity as they say.
The removal of @thedarkoverloard from multiple Steem front-ends including Steemit.com and Steempeak.com for violating the steemit.com Terms of Service agreement has also been met with both harsh criticism as well of vocal support.
Partial Censorship
This event has been a true test of Steem’s censorship-resistance claims that have attracted numerous content creators who have faced some form of censorship from Tech giant platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, YouTube and Google. Slowly but surely there are fewer and fewer platforms that will tolerate alternative perspectives to mainstream thinking. Internet censorship is on the increase, there's little doubt.
As follows, @thedarkoverlord was removed from Steem Inc.s flagship app Steemit.com yet has remained visible on alternate UIs such as busy.org, Partiko, and esteem. As a result, TDO’s presence and visibility has been greatly diminished but not completely banished.
At one end of the spectrum, some feel that this was a missed opportunity for Steem to showcase one of the blockchain’s strongest features – immutability. At the other extreme, people argue that Steemit.com was wise to protect its brand from liability and enforce their ToS within their right as a private company.
For an excellent breakdown of the difference between the Steem Blockchain, Steemit.com and Steem Inc. please read @aggroed's blog about the subject below.

The Question of Legitimate Documents
One of the reasons why @deepdives has not yet initiated research into these archives has to do with the legitimacy of the documentation. Wasting the time and energy of researchers investigating the leaks is something that we want to avoid whenever and wherever possible. If the documents turn out to be fakes, then it was all for not.
However, from what we understand at this point in time and by most accounts, the documents do indeed appear to be legitimate. Currently, no one claims that they are forgeries and when you look at some of the lengthy witness ‘depositions’ from the insurance company files you can see that it would take a substantial amount of time and effort to fake.
Documents in Layers 1 and 2 are quite dry and filled with the legalese of insurance companies. Another sign that these are true documents, as there’s nothing sexy about them.
Still, this does not mean that there may not be misleading information contain in the release of future layers.

Flight 93

Perhaps one of the most interesting finds to come to light so far comes from this reddit post in r/conspiracy.

Document name from release: 00010135.doc

Heading: II. LIABILITY POTENTIAL OF AMERICAN AND UNITED AIRLINES
Subheading: D. Failure to Require that Commercial Jetliners Be Equipped With Automated Transponders.
Aviation experts agree that knowing right away that the planes had not crashed but had been commandeered might have cut precious minutes off the time it took the FAA to decide to contact the military. 6 This may have allowed the military to intervene as they did on the flight in Pennsylvania. The airlines’ failure to adopt such a policies represents another possible breach of their duty to exercise reasonable care.

This may have allowed the military to intervene as they did on the flight in Pennsylvania.
This does not conclusively mean that flight 93 was shot down by the US military but military intervention is not something that most people remember as the official story of flight 93. As the story goes, a group of heroic passengers overpowered the hijackers and crashed the plane into the woods before it could be used to attack another target.
TDO Methods
Many, including deep dive community members, object to the methods employed by TDO. In particular, TDO has made clear that they do not care about ‘truth’, they care about getting paid.
For some, the very idea of having to pay for leaked documents is unethical while for others the blackmail/extortion methods should not be supported or encouraged.
Here are some related articles worth reading/viewing on the subject of TDO and Steemit.com censorship.

Still, others are not concerned with the medium in which the documents are delivered and are solely concerned with their contents.
The idea here is if, and it’s a Big ‘IF’, the hacks of TDO contain tangible evidence of government criminality, corruption, collusion, conspiracy or cover-up in relation to 911 – this information must be brought to the attention of the world and made public.
With consideration to all of the above, @deepdives is announcing Dark-Dive, an ongoing investigation into the “911” hacks.
Dark Dives - The 911 Papers
theisinfo.com
The @deepdives collective has been following the @thedarkoverlord’s releases with great interest but have followed a wait and see approach to the 911 papers.
Thus far, nothing that would be considered to be earth-shattering has been discovered from either of the Layer-1 or Layer-2 releases. Nevertheless, there may be some documents of significance or connections that have yet to be made in the first Layers and in Layers to come 3, 4 and 5 (if they ever surface).
How to Participate
There will be only a handful of rules for those who are interested.
- Use one of the following lead tags: deepdives, darkdives, thedarkoverlord
- There will be no set time perimeters for this challenge - research is ongoing
- There will be no ‘winners’
- Quality submissions will be resteemed be the @deepdives account
- Focus on any document found in TDO 911-Papers archive and make a post about it.
- Report, analyze, comment on ACTUAL DOCUMENTS from the archive (screenshots are welcome)
- Wherever possible use supporting evidence or documentation from publicly available sources
As an ongoing investigation, there’ are no time constraints or ‘winners’. If there are a number of significant articles contributed from the community, @deepdives will make an update post to highlight anything of real interest and recognize contributors.
Safety First
Please, please, please be cautious.
Educate yourself in how to be remain safe if you’re considering decrypting and opening any of the file containers provided by TDO.
We strongly recommend that you wait until others more qualified have determined that the containers are free of Malware/Ransomware before diving into research.
Thus far, it's our understanding that there have been no reports of malware or ransomware from Layer 1 or Layer 2.

Layers of the 911 Onion
When contemplating whether or not to do a Deep Dive on this controversial topic, we came to the conclusion that this type of research is exactly the reason why we started @deepdives in the first place. We dig, we investigate, we question, we report.
There’s no guarantee that TDO will even release Layers 3 to 5, we may never know what's contained inside the hacked archive but since it’s already out there we feel like it’s something worth investigating.
After all, this is what @deepdives was created for.
As Always, Be Safe Out There and Happy Digging
We know this research is not for everybody, and for good reason.
We've created a small Deep Dives Discord with a handful of members. It's a closed group at the moment but if you're interested in joining please DM us. It's a place to discuss the leaks and related subject matter. Also, if you've been involved as a contributor to Deep Dives in the past you'll have no problem gaining access.
Special thanks to @an0nkn0wledge, @ura-soul, @bifilacoil, @thoughts-in-time, and @theouterlight.
