We saw how important voting is in the tussle with Justin Sun. Witness votes are vital to the operation of the blockchain.
There is another area that each of us can help with the direction of the blockhain.
With the fork to Hive, there is a lot of work that needs to be done. It starts with the ongoing development of the blockchain. Remember, there is no longer a Steemit Inc to fall back upon (or hinder us).
In looking through the proposals, we see many are still from the old days on Steem (last week). Yet, Netuoso put up a proposal the other day that is worthy of our vote.
Before getting into it, I must state this is not a popularity contest. We are not looking for a "face" of Hive. Instead, we are looking at whether the individual can pull off what is being proposed.
The proposal includes some background information on him so I will leave it to everyone to read on that. One think that I feel is important to note is he was the individual who wrote the soft fork on Steem (again, we are looking for talent, not whether one agrees with the decision or not).
Another important variable in all of this is the idea of SMTs.
The funds will be used to pay for my time developing on the Hive blockchain. I will contribute new features to the core blockchain code as well as provide testing and support for existing features or the eventual SMT hard fork. (Yes, SMT will still be coming)

For Hive to reach the level of success many of us think possible, we are going to require the efforts of many developers. A lot of the basics fall back to the blockchain code, hence we are going to require upgrades on that end.
A big part of a decentralized community is funding basic initiatives ourselves. The SPS allows us to determine where the funds go to.
Part of being a community member is voting your stake on important matters. Ensuring that we have development of the blockchain is near the top of the list in my opinion.
