If you're a car enthusiast like me, or would just like to keep your car looking good, I will show you how to make your wheel rims look like new in these few easy steps.
You will need the following:
- a jack
- jack stands
- tire wrench
- sand paper
- glossy spray paint
Step 1: Remove the hub cap from the rim you're treating.
Step 2: Loosen up the screws (or bolts) of the tire.
Step 3: Raise your car up with a jack. Place jack stands under the car for safety. Place the jack stands under a structural part of the car.
Step 4: Remore the tire. You will want to sand down rim. Be sure to carefully sand away all the rust and old paint. You will want to be left with a completely smooth surface. I sanded my tire by hand.
Step 5: Wash the tire with soapy water. Use a sponge or a rag to clean off all old paint and rust as necessary. Allow the rim to dry completely.
Step 6: You should be left with a shiny surface to spray paint on:
Step 7: Use masking tape to cover all the parts of the tire you do not want to paint. Cover the backdrop with cardboard, old newspapers etc. so you do not end up messing up the surrounding area with unwanted paint.
Step 8: Now you're ready to apply a new coat of paint. I use Krylon glossy black with included primer. It's pretty cheap, and is readily available at Walmart. When using the spray paint, use steady sweeping motions and apply many thin coats. Wait a little while between coats (30 seconds is fine). Don't use too much spray paint at a time, since you don't want the spray paint to trickle down the surface.
Step 9: Let the paint dry for at least an hour.
Step 10: Attach the wheel back onto your car. Remove the jack stands and lower the car. Tighten the screws/bolts.
Step 11: Replace the hub cap. Now you're ready to add some tire shine and you're good to go!
