
Reporting from Bitcoin, after a period of restrictions and policy making, regulators in the French-speaking Canadian region, Québec, have realized the potential benefits of hosting crypto mining companies. In 2018 Quebec does not seem ready to embrace and accommodate energy-intensive bitcoin mining. The inability to meet the high energy demand from the crypto sector was expressed through a proposal to charge electricity rates up to three times higher, until a political statement that "we are not really interested." However, many things have now changed.
