This is a 9 minute clip I cut from a 32 minute presentation called Concurrency is not parallelism. I watched this a few years ago and remember finding it oddly creepy. It was originally filmed in 2013 by Google employee, computing pioneer, and Golang creator Rob Pike.
I have incredible respect for Rob Pike and his work at Bell Labs related to Plan 9 which would eventually lead to his development of Golang at Google.
I always thought he might be making a deep insight here that is completely unrelated to parallelism in computer science (which is supposed to be the main topic).
He doesn't want to get involved in the politics of everything, just wants to keep pushing computing forward but he feels an inner need to drop a hint for developers watching.
What is the hidden message in the talk? I feel my cut does a good job of pointing it out.
Google is and was at least since 2013 very focused on issue of censoring information. How much more clear can he be about that without being fired? How many other Google employees could get away with using that as an example at an official talk?
