Week 28 (March 2019)
Welcome to Domains in the Wild. In this series I post images of domain names that I've spotted out and about in the real world. Then I write a bit about what I think of each one. It's easy to miss domain names, but they're all around us and play a key role in a companies branding, messaging and design. Spotting them and taking a photo is sort of a fun hunting game to play while you're out and it takes very little effort once you start looking for them. Once you start to play, you will start seeing domains everywhere without even trying.
If you catch any yourself, please share them with us all in the comments.
Without further delay, here are the domain names that I found in the wild recently...
The Domains
More commercial vehicles this week. They're moving billboards, so of course they're great spots to catch a domain in the wild. I imagine that I'll be seeing even more of these as the Spring season kicks in and people are out and want to get more repairs and Spring cleaning done. Anyway, onto the domains!
HDPartners.net

The first domain up is HDPartners.net. This domain belongs to a Plumbing and Heating Company based in Seattle. The company was formed in 2014 as a result of two other companies merging (DK Partners & UPR Systems).
As for the domain, I don't like it at all. I've said it before, mixing acronyms and words just doesn't make for a great domain. They're difficult to read and confusing. You can sometimes pull it off if it's a well known acronym. I'm not sure what "HD" stands for in this case concerning plumbing and heating. It is a match of their company name but it ends in .net and that drops it a bit for me too.
UnitedRoofingNW.com

Next up is UnitedRoofingNW.com. This domain belongs to a roofing company serving the King and Snohomish counties out here in Washington. The actual business name is United Roofing.
As for the domain, I don't mind it. It's a close match to their company name and the added NW isn't terribly off putting as most people out here know "NW" as "NorthWest". That said, I think they could do better. Overall it's an average domain name. Although I prefer a .com the exact match is available in .net as well as .org. UnitedRoofingNorthWest.com is also available but a bit long. Like I said, it's an average name. They could do worse but they could probably find something better, it just may cost them a bit of money.
SeattleMobileGrooming.com

Finally, we have SeattleMobileGrooming.com. This is domain belongs to a small business offering exactly what their name and domain says... mobile grooming in Seattle!
I like this domain. Although a bit long, it's an exact match of their company name. It's easy to remember and it says everything about who they are and what they do. It's easy to remember a company that brands themselves in an easy way like this.
