In captive state the earth gets taken over by these sea urchin spikey aliens but they do resemble tall skinny vril in brief shots.
The movie has the aliens forcing humans to recognize them as "Legislators" and they force humans to help them build spaces deep underground for them to occupy, oh and they've microchipped everyone to track and identify them, and the world is just pretty drab and shitty really.
Many of those loyal to the aliens are promised privileges of being able to live and such.
Fortunately john goodman in the end turns out to be a good man and blow himself up as he goes down into one of these underground bases they call "Closed Zones" a name that sounds like people are saying Clone Zones at various points in the movie (The hinting gets that vague), Britney spears actually did a similar thing in her song Mona Lisa where it clearly sounds like she's saying "She's been Cloned" over and over when in the lyrics its meant to be she's been gone, you decide.
I just don't find the concept of her being gone very incredible or unforgettable as the concept of her being cloned..
Either way.
Thats why I've only just properly watched Captive State just now.
Because I knew it'd be basically exactly like this.
Most things are nowadays.
And most things back in the old days where too its just people didn't really notice.
The Clicking Gurgle language was also used for the vril referencing aliens in the move Signs 2002 as well.
Those aliens also have poison spikes that come out their wrist, which is a thing the tall vril have. Back facing legs too.
But in captive state they're just all spikey now.
And it wasn't ten years ago they took over like the movie poster suggests, we've been dealing with them for more like 100,000 years.
Its not like Evil Devil Vile Viral Villainous Virile Vampiric Vril have been worked into our shit at all.
If they Did Exist they'd probably be making the earth Very Ill.
And probably filling it with propaganda about themselves.
