Luis is a UC Berkeley student currently being held by CBP awaiting to be placed under ICE custody. He was detained after making a wrong turn into a port of entry on New Year's Eve, and welcomed in the new year being held by Border Patrol agents. This is why we must engage and call TONIGHT and early TOMORROW MORNING! Let our collective ask to #FreeLuis pressure CBP and ICE to let Luis commence his classes this coming semester.
I want to highlight how Luis would have qualified for many of the proposed DREAM Act proposals, but given that Democrats and Republicans alike continue to use the lives of immigrant youth as bargaining chips, Luis now has to face the harsh reality of being detained awaiting deportation.
This is why we need a #cleanDREAMact now. One that not only protects Luis and others like him, but doesn't further criminalize our immigrant communities.
