Welcome back to another DIY project done by yours truly...with the help of my son @lil-splatts. In this video we tear into the back of my 2001 Ford Excursion and remove the fuel tank. The reason I am removing the fuel tank is because this truck, I know it’s a SUV whatever, has over 218,000 miles. I don’t even want to begin to estimate the amount of fuel that has ran though this rig. Let’s just say a crap-ton of fuel how’s that sound....crappy?? That many gallons and that many miles could lead to a dirty fuel tank and in my case clogged in-tank filters. This rig has 2 metal mesh filters that are inside the tank attached to the fuel pickup foot. I have seen some horror stories and certainly don’t want that to happen to me when we are on a family vacation or something. These pre-filters can get clogged completely and basically cut off the fuel to the engine.
No Fuel
No Go
Simple as that.
With this project there really isn’t a whole bunch of stuff to remove to get the tank out.
- 4 - 18mm bolts hold the tank in place.
- 3 - 8mm bolts hold the filler tube in place
- 2 hose clamps that hold the filler tube to the tank hoses
- 1 electrical connector
- 2 - Fuel lines that require a 1/2in fuel line disconnect tool
Also you will need a jack and some jack stands because this tank is big!! 44 gallons. You will need to lift the rear end of the truck in the air. I didn’t have to do that to mine because it already has a 4in lift and 35in tall tires. That tank barely came out of there.
This video is a bit longer than my past videos but I feel it was totally necessary in order to get all the info to you guys.
My son had a bit of a scare with the airgun but he is 100% fine, not a bruise or scratch on him. He was a big help in this project as you can see from the video :wink:wink
Again I hope you all enjoy my video ...
