It’s time to get the greenhouse ready for spring here in northeast Oklahoma (zone 7a), beginning with pest control while the numbers are small. This video covers treatment of aphids, whiteflies and pill bugs. Regarding the latter, aside from cheap beer, small pieces of meat or cheese can be put in the cups, which I will do later after thinning the numbers greatly. The beer traps will begin to smell after a while and need to be cleaned out. That’s when the meat or cheese goes in, which has a lot less smell.
I didn’t mention caterpillars. They’re treated later after they emerge by spraying a biological insecticide on the leaves called bacillus thuringiensis which is safe for animals and very effective at killing caterpillars.
Will do more posts and videos on the greenhouse and gardens as the season progresses. You’re welcome to ask any questions you may have and offer suggestions.
