The Gator's post season was suspended like all of college basketball. An inconsistent Gator squad was not expected to go deep. And while they will suffer from some key loses to the NBA, they are returning a senior point guard who has shown steady progress in Tyree Appleby.
Appleby transferred in as a Junior so has only played one season under Coach White. A lanky point guard Appleby showed he was a strong defender, leading the Gator team with 1.5 steals per game. On offense he has the speed and quickness to take the ball to the rim or dish it oHe lead the team.
GatorFan's Take
I expect Appleby will be much improved in his second year running Coach White's dribble drive offense and will be a key player in the Gator's post season hopes. While one and done freshman seems to be current fad, one place I like to see seniors is at point guard. But Appleby will need to learn to protect the ball and work more as he has shown tenancies to be a bit uncontrolled in some drives.
