Mechanization is the use of specialized agricultural implements to perform soil tillage, that is, plowing the land to remove the topsoil, which is done before planting, to facilitate seed germination, growth, development and production of cultivated plants.
It also allows weed control and seeks to improve the physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil. Tillage is defined as the chemical, physical or biological manipulation of soils to optimize germination, seedling emergence and crop establishment.
However, this concept nowadays also includes other activities such as cutting or shredding residues, sowing, pesticide and fertilizer application and harvesting.
It should be considered that efficient mechanization contributes to time and labor savings, so producers should define their tillage systems, whether conventional or traditional.
