Today it's back to school for me. No, I'm not returning to college - not a physical location, but these days, the Internet is one big university.
With so much knowledge and information available for free these days, there's almost no excuse not to learn something new on a weekly basis. This is what I try to do. I try to live a life of continuous learning.
The more you know, the more you know how much you don't know!
You also realise how much you can never know. If you're the type that likes to know, then this knowledge is incredibly depressing haha. Oh well.
Anyway, today I am learning to use DaVinci Resolve 15 properly. I can already do a fair bit of colour correction and grading in it, but the software is so powerful that I've only scratched about 10% of the surface.
I've decided to eventually move to DR for my video work so it makes sense to learn the software properly. One huge benefit of DR over Final Cut Pro X (which is my favourite editing app), is it's free! There is a highly professional version that isn't free, but I don't need that level of kit.
I'm mainly a visual learner, so my DR education consists of tutorial videos that I'm watching and following along. Already I've picked up a few new tricks.
I shall try editing my next DTube video entirely in Resolve just to see. It will no doubt take a little longer to do than in my usual iMovie/Final Cut, but as time goes on, I shall get more proficient.
Another benefit of moving to DR, apart from the free price, is that it's cross-platform. The way it is now, I'm married to the Apple ecosystem. I want to be able to move to Windows or even Linux and still be able to edit my videos the same way. DR will give me this freedom.
What new thing are you learning today?
Peace and Love ✌🏿
