Easter gets overlooked by many people in the US because of it’s lack of gift giving. I think in popularity with children, children probably rank it after Halloween. It had another problem, because its meaning get confused with chocolates and eggs. I mean use Easter in a sentence not about the holiday. -you’ll see what I mean below.
Living in Taiwan has really made my life complete. I’m Chinese Easter is translated as, “resurrection festival”. Even though it’s not really celebrated here as much as other holidays are, the meaning is clear.
Anyway, twice a week, I teach three hours at a local elementary school. This class is an ESL class for children whose parents can’t afford to send them to a cram school. So we like to contribute our pay to make the most of if for them.
So this is our Easter party— that happened two weeks late due to covid.
So the first activity on our schedule is Easter bingo. Ahead of class I printed up 30 pictures squares and cut them up for the kids. All they have to do is glue them on. For a few weeks before our party, we have been teaching teaching the vocabulary, so we only needed a quick review. The winner got some jelly beans and a toy of their choice. We had a total of three winners.
The second activity was the iconic Easter egg hunt. This was the highlight for most the kids because they had never done anything like this before. We divided the students into two groups so everything could enjoy housing then and finding them. Each child had two eggs. Some eggs had Candy inside and some had candy and a paper. The papers had bigger prizes written on them. So every child was a winner and some good toys as well as candy.
The final activities were DIY - crafts and arts. Using one of the plastic eggs, we showed the students how to make Easter bunnies. We gave them ears, eyes, a tail, a bow, a carrot, and hands. We let them create their own bunny.
The final DIY a wooden Easter decoration. This one is easier and faster, so we saved it to the end. This is a simple coloring activity. I don’t have a final picture of this one because I had to talk to some parents. So there we are.
Happy Easter.
