Branding is everywhere in marketing. Most people concentrate on names for their website or product. Visual artists put a lot of effort into the symbols they use. Who in the world doesn't think of McDonald's when they see the rounded curves of the golden arches forming that M?
Here on Steemit, exceptional examples are visible and provided by such members as @zord. His work on the @appreciator logo for the #steemitbloggers on @discord more than proves the point! Better yet, check out his red cross inside a white cloud for the Steemit "AIR CLINIC."
The thought process behind branding is to create a memorable word, symbol, phrase, or image. People mark these different elements in their memory, and the mind associates them with that memory later on in life. Create an image that's simple and clear, or make up a new word that stimulates thought, and people will tend to remember your work!
Trigger The Brand Memory With A Catchy Profile Name!
It may seem like worthless advice now that you're already here, and there isn't a way to change it in the settings. You're stuck with your profile name here on Steemit, as far as I can tell, unless you open a second account. That doesn't make this advice void of value! Chances are down the road, you might start a blog or something of your own on a different platform. Branding your name might come in real handy at that time.
Branding Doesn't Happen Right Away - You'll See The Benefits InALittleWhile!
We are all doing something right now (even nothing is something), but we're also all fixing to do something else in a little while. When you say goodbye to a friend, "I'll see you in a little while". After being asked to contribute to daily chores, "I'll do it in a little while". You see, a little while always comes around. Hopefully, so will people's memories.
What Brought Me To Choose The Name InALittleWhile?
After writing for a little while online, branding should start to come naturally to you. Although it's too late to change your profile name, you can start applying the leverage of branding right now. Right here on Steemit!
Take for example this article: Be Like A Rock Star And Create Your Very Own Brand New Words!
At the time of its writing, the article was nothing more than a simple idea. But it was an idea that I could brand, and do so by creating the follow up post: Be Like A Rock Star And Make Up Words!: Volume II.
I added a .5 SBD contest to the second article to create some incentive for people to participate. Hopefully, it starts gaining traction in a little while.
As for the reason I chose the profile name @inalittlewhile, it comes from my love for music. I'll add an extra something (small award) to the first comment of whoever guesses the song. But here's the catch: You have to find the song on YouTube and embed it in your comment!
Tips To Take Home & To Increase Your Everything!
In Retrospect, take a look at what's going on in the above paragraphs. The title explains the big points of the article, but the post body leverages other marketing tools. I explain the concept of branding by showing examples of another Steemian's work. That's called networking! In SEO terms, it adds internal linking to this article (more on that later).
Next, you find two of my own previous articles used to reinforce the idea of branding your work here on Steemit.com. I'm creating internal links back to my earlier posts. This gives readers the opportunity to backtrack, and possibly support those earlier works. Even when they pass the 7 day payout period, they may still offer value to followers!
Of course, the topics in the title are all covered by the time you're reading these last few words. I tried to make these concepts as clear and transparent as possible for YOU, especially you newcomers trying to find a footing here in Steemland. If you have any questions, fire away in the comments. You'll also find me on the @discord app at the #steemitbloggers channel, where you can send me a DM. Hope this reaches hungry ears and helps anyone in need!
