The film “Wall street” produced in 1987 was surprisingly interesting to me as I find that profession intriguing and the only film that is thought of when you think of wall street is the film “Wolf of Wall Street” produced in 2013 showing more of the less business side of the profession I assume. The movie starts off with the introduction of a junior broker named Bud Fox with a strong obsession with working for his idol Gordan Gekko, a legendary broker. Bud persistently contacts Gordan in hopes for an interview which he is never granted until he takes matters into his own hands and abruptly shows up to his office with a box of cigars and is granted an interview. Gekko grants Bud a chance to run with the power house players in this market and gives him a blue chip stock to manage and he ends up losing money but despite that is given another chance with spying on a man named lawrence Wildman in order to find out information for him which he succeeds and makes Gekko a large sum of money. Bud is pretty much taken under the wing of Gordan and continues to make money and reeks of the benefits promised by Gordans of a luxurious life filled with high end materialistic things and beautiful women. Due to the insider information provided and the inflated price of the stock and the illegal practices taking place in the specific situation unknowingly Bud had caught the attention of securities and exchange commission. Bud proposes an idea to Gordan which is accepted and he is promoted to president of the company and his plan worked and made more of an enormous profit. Bud devises a plan that would unveil all of the illegal practices taking place, Bud uses a particular stock to manipulate and drive up the price of himself then plummet all while convincing Gordan to heavily invest into the stock. The scheme worked and Bud is arrested the next day when he goes into work and Gordan loses his company to Wildman after he purchases the company.later on bud confronts his former employer and mentor they argue and dispute over the multiple non ethical practices that took place and confessions are made, Gordan incriminates himself on recording to Bud who is wearing a wire and turns over the recording to the authorities and in return gets a lighter sentence. The end of the movie shows Bud accepting his wrong doings and walking into the court house to face his demise. I see entrepreneurial pros and cons all throughout this movie. Too start off with the cons i see is the greed of always wanting more Bud displays this in the start of the movie but comes to his senses at the end of the movie when he accepts his fate and helps the police in incriminating Gordan but on the other hand Gordan never displays a change in behavior as he belittles Bud for betraying him and “sandbagging” him with a stock that destroyed his financial prosperity. Another con I saw was the defiance against legality and the operation of business within the ramifications of the government which is looked at by entrepreneurs as a two way street. Some support it and some do not as all entrepreneurs have one main end goal and that is to make money. The pro i saw despite the defiance in legal issues is the social awareness of realizing a opportunity that has a high demand and manipulating that demand with money as the product being served is an investment that over time would increase in value so basically leaving money in someone else's hands as it appreciates and or depreciates in value. A social awareness of staying on top of new demands that are appealing and can be sold with little backfire is also another entrepreneurial factor I see within this movie.
