It all started at my tender age when i saw my mother cutting clothes and sewing, there and then i had interest in the handwork. Although my early trials proved abortive because of fear. Though i got an advice from my mother that for me to get better i should focus more myself by getting raw materials and converting them to finished goods for myself i.e buying materials by myself and sewing for myself till my hand was strong enough to start looking for patronage outside. In my build up, many things came into play where fear was the most scary thing of all because i knew my age and my size so i never wanted to sew substandard and get insulted by customers because even at my tender age then i knew how some customers did shout at my mother for some little mistakes made on a dress. But as time went on i gained grounds in the skill, i explored and really learnt all the necessary things i needed.
After high school, i wrote the jamb examination where i applied for Entrepreneurship and gain admission in 2015. Coming to the school environment generally pushed my thoughts where in my 200 level first semester the birth of JChannel Clothiers came through where i learnt that its not just about having a handwork but making it a brand. in entrepreneurship department i have learnt a lot on how to stand out in my business as a fashion designer. The department has also made me to understand how to be innovative and also it has given me more skills and ideas on how to spice up my fashion brand.
Starting up, i thought it was only about sewing and designing wears for people but in the long run, i discovered that there is more to being an entrepreneur than just being a tailor. The truth about the the department of entrepreneurship is that it exposes you to more ideas and knowledge also it will make you understand not just the basis but even more.
These are some of the things that the department enhanced me to know which makes me an entrepreneur; it gave me the knowledge on how to set up a feasibility study on my business, it thought me how to build a large customer base within a short period, it also gave me the knowledge how to be innovative(i now think vastly on new things that can be done to me a different tailor from others).
One major thing i got in the department of entrepreneurship is that for you to expose yourself is not just by sewing for customers but also by doing a public showcase of my works which came by organising and doing a fashion show, and am really happy i got into the department.
