How our development is destroying greenery of our planet?
Once this Himalayan foothill town was covered with thick forests where many plants and animals species were flourishing. It was a small village then. But this small village grew so rapidly in last five years that the green cover of the thick forest become a thing of the past.
Population of India is increasing at alarming rate. It is now more than 135 crores (1350 millions). This vast population needs enormous resources. First of all the need of houses was felt. For this the agricultural land was used and for gaining agricultural land, forest cover was destroyed. Now, agriculture is not a profession of the town dwellers. This small town is developing as a big city where many industries and factories have been established. So, the green forest cover has become a thing of the past. People who were accustomed to hear the sounds of the animals and chirps of the birds have forgotten the voices of nature.
You can see yourself in the above photos that with a rapid pace cities are engulfing the green cover of the earth. Now we have concrete structures everywhere. Can we say this the development? Was this thing our target? Is this the real achievement of us? I think most of you will agree that this is the destruction. This is the destruction of our planet and eventually us.
We have to control our population. We must have to frame rules to make people adopting a small family. Also, we need to think that this so called development is nothing but destruction. This planet has enough resources which can fulfill our needs but not greed. Our tendency to accumulate more than our need is very very harmful to the whole world. We'll have to change the definition of development. Growing concrete jungles is not the solution. We need a holistic approach to make life of every creature happy.
Thank you.
