He was doing it again
Stared straight at me
With eyes that glowed with light
'though tired did he look
With overgrown hair
And a sore on his ankle
Rags he wore for garments
But his mind was sharp
I walked up to him
To throw in his plate
The coin in my hand
But my arm he caught
Tis the 24th of December
And he shook in the night cold
Pray, give me no coin, good sir
I only need a Christmas
Together we walked in the cold
Together we entered my house
A warm bath he had
A warm meal he ate
Dressed in wool
We fixed the Christmas tree
Together we sang carols
For I too was a lonely soul
Then came Christmas morn
The present I bought for me
I gave to him
O, the tears that fell
And thus he said
God must be real
You are my Christmas gift
You are my friend
In my own tears
I kissed both his cheeks
He smiled and said
Nobody ever kissed me before
Another Christmas
And I stand by his graveside
To wish my beggar
Merry Christmas
