Tears are the escape route for our emotions. Sometimes they fall too often out of sheer exasperation, sometimes we hold them back willing ourselves not to show our vulnerability. No matter the release, tears are beautiful in that they show we care, we love, or we’re hurt and need comfort. They strengthen relationships, bringing a camaraderie of emotions together, entwining lives together to help heal.
The beauty lies in the vulnerability it takes to let the tears flow. Right up to that moment we have a choice to hold back or show it all. We have to decide to take a risk – will the person who sees me embrace my emotions or brush them off? Do I want to be seen as caring and possibly weak, or strong and emotionless? When the tears flow is when we forget what people think about us and just be ourselves, our souls open to the world – one step closer on the road to healing.
Beautiful as they are, our world doesn’t embrace the act of a good cry as it should. We’ve hardened our hearts, in turn negating the outpouring of emotions that are needed. With the world as it is today there are many hurts, many who need to relate to others, to bring healing, hope. But what we have today is an emotionless population who favors strict reigns rather than allowing true personalities to shine through.
What would happen if we allowed the world to share emotions freely? What kind of healing would that bring? Would relationships be richer? Would jobs be more enjoyable? Would lives be more fulfilled? God has not given us the ability to cry just so we can release it behind closed doors. Our lives are meant for relationships, and tears bring relationships together.
The world needs a new outlook on emotions, on tears. Our hearts need to embrace the hurt we see in the faces of those we love. No more should we hold back.
There should be no more shame in a good cry. No more biting our lip to hold them back. No more fear of judgment from others. Release your tears when they’re needed. Embrace your emotions. Allow healing to occur. Cry out to your Father. Be real. Be open. Healing will occur.
