We will need weapons for a fight, and i just found some very nice and historically accurate pictures to make some, i'll begin with a long sword.
I choose to begin with the modelling of the blade, which i spawned a plane to begin with.
Extruding sides out of the body of the blade so they will be the edges of the blade.
now that we have the base of the blade, we can safely extrude edges to around 60 centimeters high before trying to model the tip of the edge.

It's way easier to do than an helmet, but still need to be precise nonetheless.
When you made one side of the blade, you can copy paste and mirror the model to weld it back to one single blade, or use a symmetry modifier and then reconvert the object to an editable polygon so it's one main object.
Right click brings the contextual menu and you just have to choose "attach" and then clic on the other side of the blade if you choose to copy / paste and make them a whole object together.
Here's what it looks like, still a little bit basic.
So we are going to bevel the inside of the blade, and make a little retraction inside of the body of the blade to make an interesting depth to the sword and smooth the edges using around 25° as smoothing group.
Now we begin the handle and gard of the sword by spawning / creating a base cylinder in the scene.
Extruding edge borders and resizing the edges to shape the handle.
Making a "stop" for the first hand, some kind of half guard so you feel on the handle that your second hand should not pass this limit.
Continuing to shape the rest of the handle after this stop / half way handle guard.
Now handling the modelling of the guard.
Going for a losange / angular shape for the guard.
Extruding and resizing / scaling on the z axis mainly so the guard become thinner while it get further from the center of the blade.
Looks great to me.
I think i've gone far enough and added a little bit of swirling at the end of the extremities.
Uniting the blade and the handle / guard together (using alt A , it's the shortcut to invoke alignment in 3DSMax )
Finishing with a counter weight / Balancing weight at the end of the handle.
And voila ! we got ourselves a nice looking sword.
Next weapon might be an axe.
