Ethereum Classic’s Agharta Hard Fork is expected Jan. 12th. Agharta Hard Fork is an upgrade proposed by the core developers of Ethereum Classic in last December to enable technical compatibility with Ethereum. The upgrade will be activated at 9,573,000 blocks on the ETC mainnet and is expected at 8 pm on the 12th (UTC+9).
According to Xangle, the Agharta Hard Fork includes features of the Ethereum Constantinople fork such as CREATE2 protocol and intends to make ETC fully compatible with Ethereum. This technical compatibility enables Ethereum-based services to use ETC mainnet as a data layer. ETC Labs CEO, Terry Culver, told the media that they expect the compatibility between ETC and ETH networks to be an opportunity to promote the development of ETC ecosystem. Meanwhile, according to ETC Labs, ETC will continue to stick with the Proof-of-Work algorithm unlike ETH for decentralization.
After the Agata hard fork, ETC node operators or investors need to update to the latest node to remain in the ETC network. Currently, about 50% of clients have completed the update, and major exchanges are in the process of updating. Exchanges may temporarily limit ETC deposits and withdrawals to reflect fork updates.
