As countries are going digital, these countries are also moving away from the US dollar. We could see decentralized exchanges being a thing in the future. Ethereum's Serenity has me really excited. I'm looking forward to when it goes proof of stake.
Venezuela, China, Korea, Turkey, Iran, Russia, and Sweden are looking at utilizing digital currencies and thus reducing the importance of the USD as the benchmark in the global economy.
Decentralized exchanges sound like a good idea but they could be a double edged sword. Look at the DAO and what happened with Ethereum's parity.
Ethereum is bringing out Serenity pretty soon. The last phase that will take Ethereum from proof of work to proof of stake.
