Heya, just wanted to share a quick update on what's going on with Ethgard Legends and where I'm at personally:
After putting a lot of work into Ethgard Legends over the past few months, I got a bit burned out and decided to take a step back to reassess the current situation.
While the latest features were exactly what I, as a blockchain nerd, really appreciated and was aiming for, it became clear to me that they were more of a side dish - and the main dish just wasn’t quite what gamers are looking for in 2025. Or to put it simply: the core gameplay lacked depth.
So, after around two years of working on the project, I had to make a decision. Do I put even more time and money into it, or do I move it into maintenance mode and reduce costs? After taking a good, honest look at things, I realized I’m not ready to call it quits, Instead, I’ve started working on a completely new gameplay design - reusing most of the existing infrastructure, UI and auto-battler design, just with a different theme, a new battle system and much more depth. If there’s interest, the current gameplay could also stick around as a legacy mode.
I’ve also started designing a unique set of cards, this time based on what I personally enjoy the most: fantasy. But more of a classic style - with Humans, Orcs, Goblins, Dwarves, Elves & co.
The current goal is to get a minimal viable demo out. I'm making good progress there, but even for a demo, it still takes quite a bit of code to get it right.
Once there is something to share, you'll be the first ones to know.
