About two years ago, I started an experiment on Google Maps. I uploaded a few of my images to see how many people would actually look at them. Whenever you use Google Maps to find a location or see reviews, you have the option to look at photographs taken by other people who upload them on Google. Here is where I added my pictures. You'd be surprised how many locations are missing.
The idea that I had when I started with this experiment, was that anyone that can take great photographs could create an account on Google that generates traffic. During this time I only added 183 pictures. People took the time and emailed me, asking if they could use these pictures for their school assignments, blog posts, or use one of my images as the cover on a death notice.
I mean; 1,500,000+ million views in less than 2 years. It doesn't sound like much, right? But to me, having more than 2000 people looking at one or more of my photographs on a daily basis does make me proud. I feel that we are being spoiled, we drown in content, and we're always on the run for more, a quick fix. Dopamine. Today, I'm celebrating the 1.5MM views (holy crap), and the 2000 daily visitors. Awesome.
